Great power, greater reach and greatest responsibility
Now don't get me wrong. I am all for a free media and non-censored stories. But sometimes it seems that the quote 'with great power, comes great responsibility' is grossly misunderstood and unimplemented. Take a look at this headline:

Bodies charred, dragged in death dance
Iraqis drag a charred body down a Falluja street. (Reuters)

This was an event reporting which was gleefully picked up by the electronic media and displayed in all its ferocious splendour during family viewing hours. Yes !! such hours are alive - the TRP ratings say so. And the news clip did not have the mandatory 'Graphic violence - viewer discretion is advised' tag.

Earlier on, NDTV had impeccable tastes while undertaking such reports. Of late, one must say such manners are sadly lacking. The same could of course be always said of Eenaadu-TV (E-TV) which does care 2 hoots about viewer discretion and sensibilities. A reasonably comprehensive survey among E-TV Baangla viewers would reveal the sad state of affairs.

Which brings the inevitable question - should there be a body to censure such offences ? Is that too Orwellian ?
